Dear Families,

We are enjoying our IB unit on brid
ges and Portland. We were lucky to have two presentations on bridges this week. Wren's uncle Dave came in to talk aout bridge builing. He brought some built that the students could see and shared many pictures of different bridges that he has worked on.  He talked about what types of problems cause bridge failures and how bridges are constructed to be safe.

Here is a picture of one of the bolts that holds together the bridges!

Alicia, a parent of one of my students from last year, came and helped students understand all about suspension bridges. She had students create their own human suspension bridge. Later in this unit, students build their own suspension bridge out of simple materials.

In writing students continue to learn how to use Google drive. Students are learning how to log in with their district account and create a Google document on their own. Every students has an account with Google Classroom through the district. With this account, students can turn in assignments and get feedback on their writing. I encourage you have your child open up their account with you so you can see their first assignment! If you type google classroom into your web browser, the link will come up for the account.

In writing continue to work on using a variety of sentences in their writing. Students are learning about when you need a new paragraph and how to use dialogue in their writing.

Here is a new, working, link to both the tests and the answer keys to the practice tests: http://kid-writers.blogspot.com/p/oaks-math-sample-test.html

Have a wonderful weekend,
Sacha
