Last week I went on the Willamette Jet boats. We got so soaked at the end. Our driver was named Kory and he did lots of tricks. During the ride we learned things about stuff on the river. I really enjoyed the jet boats.

When we were riding Kory did lots of tricks. One of the tricks was a 360. Another trick was one that got you soaked. One other trick was where he made hole in the water then when the hole filled up water would splash all over.

            At the end I was so soaked. After I got off the boat I was happy I was going home. On the way home I was so cold and wet. I want to go on the jet boats again.

German Shepards are big dogs or medium dogs. They have been used in war, police and security. The German Shepard is an obedience worker.

They are usually 23-25 in. tall.  They weigh about 75-95 pounds. They can be very playful.

They can be a mixture of colors such as black, white, or brown and tan. Most of the time there is black on them. German Shepards are good dogs.

    Warriors is a book I like to read.  In it there are six cat clans.  The main cat clans are Shadow clan and Thunder clan.  

           Blue Star is the leader of Thunder clan.  Blue Star is the best clan leader.  Blue star is grey cat with blue eyes. That is why she is called Blue Star.

           Each cat has its own duties. Medicine cats help wounded cats.  Queens care for kits. Warriors patrol or hunt for the clan.  Apprentices train to be warriors.  Leaders do everything accept care for kittens and do medicine work.

          In Into the Wild, the first book, a kitty pet named Rusty joins Thunder clan.  Rusty’s clan name is given to him at the end of the first book.  His warrior name is Fireheart.  Fireheart is called fire-heart because his fur is a firey orange color.

          Shadow clan has 12 cats in it.  Raggedstar is shadow clans leader.  Sage Whisker is Shadow clans medicine cat.  Sade whisker is a white cat with greenish yellow eyes.  Sage Whisker taught Yellow Fang how to be a medicine cat. Raggedstar is brown with orangish yellow eyes.  

        The other clans are Wind clan, River clan, and Sky clan.  There are three other outside clans, they are Tribe of Rushing Water, the Early Settlers and cats outside the clans.  

If you are a clan leader you have star at the end of your name.  If you are an apprentice you have paw at the end of your name.  

Raven Paw was a Thunder clan apprentice.  Then he had to leave because Tiger claw was going to kill him.  So he ran off to Barley and lived with him for the rest of his life.  He had told Fire Paw about it.  After Fire Paw came back he lied that Raven Paw was dead.

         I really enjoy reading these books.

WHY OWLS HAVE SUCH BIG EYES

One day there was an owl. The owl’s favorite thing was to perch on a sunny pine branch. Owl liked sunny afternoons. On a sunny afternoon she liked to be on pine branches. Her favorite view was near a big lake where there were lots of big pine trees. Owl’s house was in one of those pine trees by the lake. In her hollow she had a very comfy bed. Sometimes she would stand on a branch and talk to herself. 

Sometimes she would say to herself, “What a wonderful place to be.” One day she was comparing the color of the lake to the sky. She did that every sunny afternoon for three days. 

On the third days she was about to decide when she met a nice chipmunk. Chipmunk and owl immediately became friends. Chipmunk told owl everything about him. This is some of the things he said.

He told owl how he lived in a pine tree just next to owl. He also said his favorite thing to do was sit on big pine trees and look over the lake. 

One day when owl and chipmunk were looking over the lake, chipmunk asked owl, “”Owl, what do you like to eat?” 

Owl said, “I like to eat nuts and berries.” 

Then chipmunk answered “hey, me too” 

A couple of days later owl asked, “do you think that the sky and the lake are the same color?” 

Chipmunk said, “I don’t know.” 

Then owl said, “Lets figure it out.”

First owl looked at the lake. She wondered if the sky and lake were the same color. She thought maybe the lake was darker.

Then own looked at the sky. She meant to just look at the color of the sky, but instead she looked directly at the sun.

Her eyes began to hurt from the bright light. Then they felt like there were burning. Her eyes because bigger and bigger.

Chipmunk looked at owl in surprise. She said, "What happened? Your eyes are huge! They are as big as the lake."

Now you know why owls eyes are so big.

A ball comes toward me whoosh! I kick it towards goal score. My name is Alma and I am an expert on soccer. I started playing soccer when I was 6 years old. Now I am the best goalie on my team.

            You will need some gear to play soccer. One piece of gear you will need is shin-guards. Another piece of gear you will need is ankle-guards. The piece is cleats. The fourth one is a ball.

            Another thing you will need to know is the rules. One rule is if the ball goes out, then the other team gets to throw it in. Another rule is goal line it's a goal. The third main one is If you foul someone, the other team gets to kick the ball from where you fouled them.

The fourth main one is when there is a goal kick only the goalie can save it. There are lots of different positions in soccer. One position in soccer is Forward. Another position in soccer is mid-field. The third one is defense. Then the last one is goalie. My two favorite positions are forward and goalie.

            I really enjoy playing soccer. I play for NEU U-9. I was  not that good when I started but now I am great one of my favorite things about soccer is that you can be competitive. Now soccer is my favorite sport.

Caprese Salad

Ingredients

3 Vine Ripe Tomatoes

1 lb fresh mozzarella, sliced ¼” thick

20-30 leaves fresh basil

Extra Virgin olive oil for drizzling

Coarse salt and pepper

Directions: Layer alternating slices of tomatoes and mozzarella, adding a basil leaf between each. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper to taste.

My recipe came from Italian culture.

Who is my mentor and what did I learn from my mentor:

I interviewed my Dad and he is half Italian. On warm summer days his Grandma would make Caprese Salad. It is served as an anti pasta or appetizer. Caprese salad originated on the Island of Capri, Italy and the colors were meant to resemble the Italian flag.I I really enjoyed learning about Caprese Salad.

Over spring break I am going to Arizona. In Arizona we will meet my grandma and grandpa. We will stay at a campground that is right outside of Tucson. One thing we will do is hiking. I really enjoy hiking in Arizona.

            In the campground there are activities for kids to do. One activity is  bird watching hike. Another one is where you learn about the animals of Arizona. The last one I remember is a nature hike. I really enjoyed the bird watching.

            I really enjoy learning about Arizona. One thing that surprised me was there is more than one type of scorpion. Another thing that surprised me was cactus can store water in them. The third thing that surprised me was a kind of tortoise can live in the desert. I really enjoy going to Arizona.

If I lived in Antarctica life would be difficult. Food and fuel would have to be transported. You probably could not play soccer or go to school. It would affect me because I could not be outside for long. You could not have waffles or pizza everyday because the ingredients take a long time to ship.

Both garbage and fuel only come and go from Antarctica in the summer. For garbage there is a big barn for one community. The ships that deliver the fuel would only come in the summer because nothing comes or goes in the water. The fuel would take 40 hours to unload.

I am glad that I live here instead of Antarctica because it is more convenient here.

White Nose Syndrome is a problem because it kills lots of bats. The first thing I'm going to talk about is making caves for bats. The second thing I'm going to talk about is not wearing gear that has been in other caves. My action plan is to make a poster and hang it up in school.

In this paragraph I'm going to talk about making caves for bats. If we make caves for bats, less bats will get WNS. If we make caves for bats then we can clean the caves in the summer. Plus, if scientists can make the caves in the right condition, then the bats will breed. In the caves there will be small ledges for the bats to hang from.

Next I'm going to talk about not wearing gear or clothes that have been in other caves. Even if you have washed your gear or clothes, you can't wear them in a cave. You also have to change your shoes. The fungus can survive the washing machine and get stuck in your clothes. Since people have been following these rules, WNS has been getting better.

Finally I'm going to talk about my action plan. My action plan is to make a poster and put it up in school so people will be more aware of WNS. Then, if people know about WNS it will help the environment. I feel hope for bats with WNS.

Have you ever wondered how credit cards work? When you use a credit card the money comes straight out of your bank account. If your credit card is lost or stolen report it to the bank. Credit card companies will sometimes give you limits of how much you can spend. Have you ever wondered how checks work? Checks and debit cards are very alike. Most people have checks on them. Most people use checks instead of debit cards. Checks are easy to use at most stores. It is easy to earn money you could start a business. You can dog walk or sell lemonade. Think of a good price for your business. Earning money can be very fun and easy.

“Beach Trip”

        I went to the beach last Friday. I saw lots of bald eagles there. There was a tepee made out of logs there. I found a bald eagle feather there, it was brown. I liked that day because I like the beach.

        The beach was very fun. It was very rainy at the beach. I saw lots of fishermen there. The name of the town was Capemeer. I had a very fun time at the beach.

“Gazpacho”

I interviewed my mom. She knew this recipe from living in Spain 1 year. She knows it because it is popular in the summer. They served it in pint glasses to drink. Southern Spain is famous for its fresh tomatoes. It is served cool on hot summer days. My mom likes Gazpacho because it is fresh and refreshing.

Ingredients:

• 6 medium vine-ripe tomatoes, halved
• 1 ½ to 1 cup packed fresh basil
• 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 teaspoon of Nama Shoyu soy sauce
• 1 clove garlic
• 1 to 2 teaspoons spike Celtic sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
• 1 yellow bell pepper, finely chopped
• 1 to 2 cobs corn, kernels cut off the cob
• ½ apple, chopped
• ¼ jicama, chopped

To make the base: In a blender, combine all of the ingredients and blend until desired consistency is reached. You may use the whole tomatoes, including skin and seeds.

To make “meat”: Combine the chopped vegetables and fruit in a large bowl. Pour the base mixture into the bowl and mix well. Serve well-chilled. It tastes even better the next day!

To make the more authentic “Spanish” version add crusty or dried bread that has been soaked in H₂O.

I think that a Baker needs to get up early. Bakers bake cakes, pies and bread. Sometimes bakers stay with a local baker and learn stuff. A baker needs to know what people like. I think that it would be fun to be a baker because you get to bake. If I was a baker I would want to have a nice bakery.

            When we parked our car, I was nervous. Today was my first day of ski school. I walked into the ski lodge, there was so many people. My mom and dad came with me, when we were going out of the ski lodge it was hard to walk in my ski boots because the front of my boot was higher than the back.

            The first thing I learned was how to stop, the second thing I learned was how to to turn, and the third thing I learned was how to ride the lift chairs. At 11:30 we went to the ski lodge to have lunch; I got pizza and root beer.

            My favorite part was the last run down the bunny hill, we got to do whatever we wanted on the last run.

            To save electricity and money you should use more efficient light bulbs. CFI bulbs use 90 percent less energy. Incandescent bulb burn out quickly. Incandescent  bulb get very hot  and it wastes 75 percent energy.

            Turning off lights when they are not in use is a good way to save energy. You could use solar panels on your house. Workers make houses that when they sense people are not around they turn off all their lights. The energy trust of Oregon does home energy audits. There are several solar panel manufacturers in Oregon. My personal action plan  is turn off all the lights in my house.
