Sarah

It was a cool day in April. The kind of day that makes you want to be outside. The Iversons decided to go for a walk in the Ridgewood Forest.

“EKK!” They heard a strange sound in the forest.

Mrs. Iverson said, “What was that?”

Mr. Iverson went to look. He saw an egg as tall as four flat screen TVs and as wide as 100 water bottles.
“Holly, I found a huge egg! I’m going to get the truck,” he called to Mrs. Iverson. He went to get the truck.

While he was getting the truck, Holly Iverson waited. She decided to go see the egg herself. She gasped. “Its gianourmas!”

Just then, Mr. Iverson and his truck pulled up. Together the Iversons heaved the egg into the truck. Then they drove home.

Mrs. Iverson yawned. “Good night John.” she said. They went upstairs. THe Iversons crawled into bed. They were sound a sleep in minutes.

Mr. Iverson heard a noise. He shook Mrs. Iverson awake.
“Holly get up. I hear something strange,” he said.

Together the Iversons went downstairs. They heard a loud “AKK”.

“I think its coming from the garage,” Mrs. Iverson whispered. “I think something in there.

Mr. Iverson grabbed his gun off the kitchen door. He crept over to the garage door, but before he could open it……… BOOOOM! The door exploded. Mrs. Iverson screamed.

Mr. Iverson yelled “REACH FOR THE SKY!” It was pitch black. They couldn’t see anything.

Mrs. Iverson thought, ‘If I open the garage door, maybe we could see who it is.” So she did. But all she saw were great big wings flying in the darkness.

“I guess we’ll never know what was in that egg,” Mr. Iverson sighed.

Dear Families,

As you probably have heard, the Blooming Pearls are battling in the final battle this Monday at 1:25! Please come if you are able. No matter the outcome, we will have a little party in the classroom celebrating everyone's successes after the battle. You are also welcome to attend that! I am so proud of everyone.

Happy Dr. Seuss week. This week we wrote poems in the style of Dr. Seuss and heard a few books. On Friday we did a school wide Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) session in honor of Dr. Seuss. Many students participated in Poem in your Pocket, where students were encouraged to write a poem and they read it out loud to at least three different people. We had a fun time celebrating his birthday this week.

In writing students experience something new this week. Students learned how to open a Google document file and practiced typing up some of their writing on Google Docs. These stories, as they are finished, are then uploaded to the blog. You should see more stories and poems in the upcoming weeks.

In writing we are also learning more about punctuating dialogue and about using commas. Students are learning that if you move a phrase that tells when from the end to the beginning of the sentence, you need to add a comma.

I walked to the store after school today.
After school today, I walked to the store.

In math we continue to work with fractions. We are placing fractions that are greater than one on a number line like 11/3 and 15/3. We are also working on comparing fractions that are greater than one. For example is 2 or 7/4 a larger number?

Finally, we continued to practice how to use the computer interface for the state test. It is part of students homework to practice with the state test online so they are comfortable with the website. Please make sure that you are going online with your child to look at the test and help your child get comfortable with the test. If you are opting out of the test, please let the school know ASAP.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Dear Ms. Luria,

I think lots of kids would love this place. The Art Museum!! I think that our class should go to the Art Museum for our field trip. It is close to school, is free for kids. We can learn what the paintings mean.

I think that our class should go to the Art Museum for a field trip. Also, we can learn about what the paintings mean. It will be very interesting to learn what the paintings mean. It will be awesome to just be looking at the art. Those are the reasons why we should go to the Art Museum.

The Art Museum is the only place for a field trip. It’s very very close to school. Kids don’t have to pay anything. The Art Museum is the only place for a field trip. It’s cheap for kids.

I think that our class should go to the Art Museum. It’s very close to school. We can learn what the paintings mean. Also, it has interesting art. Finally, we can learn about the paintings. The Art Museum is only $25. Additionally, the Art Museum is the only place for a field trip.

Dear Ms. Luria,

Only one place would be exciting and educational. I think our class should go to OMSI for our field trip. OMSI is close to school, isn’t very expensive and there might be an exhibit about something we are learning.

OMSI is a great place to go because it isn’t very expensive. It is  $175. Besides, we would be able to go on other field trips this year because we still would have some money. OMSI is a great place to go.

I think that we should go to OMSI for our field trip because it is close to school and there might be an exhibit about something we’re learning. We’d be back in time to go home. It wouldn’t take a long time on the bus Also, they pro  ly have an exhibit about adaptations. Maybe we would answer some of our questions about adaptations there. OMSI is the best place to go!

I think our class should go to OMSI for our field trip. It is close to school. It isn’t very expensive and there might be an exhibit about something we’re learning. Therefore, OMSI is the only place where we can learn a lot and have a lot of fun!

Sincerely,

Sadie

My favorite is pizza. One reason I like pizza is I really like the pepperoni and the sauce. I like a light coat of cheese on my pizza. Once we made a pizza of our own. First, we spread out the dough. Second, we spread the tomato sauce. Third, we sprinkled little bits of cheese all over.

We stuck the pepperoni on last. We put it in the over and waited and waited and waited. Finally, we took it out and ate it. I loved the pepperoni and the crust. Also, another reason I like pizza is the bread crust. I really, really like pizza! My brother doesn't like any pizza except Dominoes pizza. I like the Dominoes crust because it is covered with garlic! But that doesn't mean I don't like other pizza! I really love all pizza!

Wallace

Hi. My name is Wallace. My favorite food is... well, if I had to choose I would choose marshmallows! I like marshmallows because they're chewy and sweet. Marshmallows are good in s'mores but I like them alone. I usually eat them at a beach. I do eat them when I go camping (though I rarely go camping.) Marshmallows are a very sweet treat!
