Dear Families,

Valentine's Day Students may exchange cards on Valentine's day. I encourage students to make hand-made cards and not use store bought cards. This will be the homework assignment for the week leading up to Valentine's Day. Either way, please know that we will exchange cards, but NOT treats! (26 kids each handing out candy to 26 kids = a ton of sugar!)

Reading/History -We continue to learn about food and where food is from. This week we learned about the history of tea, wedding cakes, and birthday foods. Students also chose a specific ingredient to do a research project on such as the history of tomatoes. Students learned about where the food originally was discovered and how it is now used in different parts of the world.

Math -We are learning all about area this week. You child should be able to find the area of rectangles and the perimeter of rectangles. Your child should also be able to look at a complex shape and break it down into smaller shapes. Here are some five minute video to give you an idea of what your child should be able to do this time of the year with area: https://learnzillion.com/lessonsets/755

Science -We learned all about mixtures this week! What makes a mixture different from a solution? What happens when you mix different liquids and solids? Can your child give you an example of a solution and a mixture that you see in real life?

Have a wonderful weekend!
