Classroom need: We are out of pencils. The best pencils (that don't break every 5 minutes) are the Ticondera pencils. Thanks! Also, we could use some more hand held pencil sharpeners.
The second classroom need is some photographs. Do you have a picture of you when you were the same age as your child? Could you send in a picture of yourself when you were a kid and another picture of yourself now? It can be a copy of a picture. We would like to use the pictures for our life cycle class.

Social Skills: Students made calm down jars today. They learned about calming their thoughts and using mood jars to help calm down. Students are to gently shake the jars and then let the glitter fall. As they watch the glitter, they breathe slowly to calm down. Ask them about the story.
Walk to read: This is the last week for walk to read. Students will continue to receive reading instruction, but with their homeroom teacher. It has been wonderful teaching all of your children in the walk to read program!
This week we looked at the concept of freedom. Here is a fun webquest you can do with your chidren! http://kid-writers.blogspot.com/2013/05/statue-of-liberty-quest.html

Students in my homeroom
class will start a non-fiction study during reading. We are going to be
learning about life cycles of plants and animals. Do you work with life cycles
in your job? If so, would you be willing to do a presentation on life cycles?
Please email me if you would be able to do that!
Math: 3rd grade Students completed their OAKS testing this
week. We had a 90% pass rate! Great job students for working on math. We will
continue walk to math through the end of May.
We are studying fractions.
This week we worked with fractions that are less than one, equal to one and over
one. We also worked on how fractions, money and decimals are related.
Writing: We are working on an imaginative writing unit. The students have
finished writing a story map from their story. They also did an interview with
their character. We will be writing the introduction and body of the story next
week!
Make sure your child checks their name on the blog. Many of them have comments about their writing!
