Elliana

I'm in third grade. My dream is to become a principal when I grow up. My favorite thing to do in school is to write and to help the teacher. The hardest part of school is when I have to do a lot of work. I don't like doing math because it is really hard.

One day my teacher gave me an assignment. She said, "Write a speech about what you want to be when you grow up."

I thought the assignment was fun. I worked on writing my speech for four days. I did it in class and at home too.

My mom said, "Great job Alisha. Your teacher is going to be proud of you."

The day of the speech I got to school and I went in my classroom. I did my morning work, which was math. I was thinking, "I can't wait till I read my speech."

Finally it was speech time. I had to wait for three people to read their speeches. They said they wanted to be a fireman, a policewoman and a gardener.

I walked into the back of the room to read my speech. I stood on the brown carpet, feeling nervous and happy. Then I read my speech. Here it is:

If I were principal at Sabin, I would change the whole school. We would have more fun. There would be less work.
It would be fun because there would be more recess. There would be four recess a day. I would have basketballs, jump ropes, water guns with water in them and and sand box.  I would give the children candy every day. They would love the candy. I would give them fifty pieces a day. If kids behaved well I would give them money instead of golden tickets. The kids who were IB learners would find twenty dollars in their desk when they did a good job.
The teachers would even give the girls a pedicure. They would have pink, purple and red nail polish. The cafeteria would be a ball room.
Kids would not have to do as much work. The teachers would have to do 30 pages of work every day. The kids would have to do work like how many jelly beans can you shove in your mouth. They would count pieces of candy and then eat them up. Kids would feel happy about school.
I would love to be principal at Sabin because it would be the best job I'd ever had. It would be so cool. I would get to rule to teachers. Everybody would like me and I would be happy.

At the end of my speech the kids clapped. My teacher said, "good job Alisha."

I felt thrilled. After school, mom came to pick me up. "Alisha, how was your day today?"

"It was awesome. I loved it! I loved it! I really, really, really loved it! I did art and Spanish, but the best part was my speech.

"I hope your speech comes true," my mom said to me. "Let's go get pizza and invite your friends to come over."

"Yah. Let's get cheese pizza."

30 years later

I have to read lots of books to become a principal at Sabin. It's my dream come true. I hope this is the best job ever. My first day at work I can't wait to rule the teachers and tell the teachers what to do. It will be so much fun!

1 cup beef broth                                    1 teaspoon oil

1 packet of sazon and adobo                 2  tablespoon of sofrito

My recipe comes from Puerto Rican culture

My Aunt Bille Jo is my mentor. I learned that empanadas are a traditional Puerto Rican

dish. Many families like to make this dish for birthdays and other special occasions. You

can change the meat inside the empanadas. My Aunt Bille Jo loves making this dish for

her family and learned it from her Puerto Rican mother in law.

The Mint is money. The money is sent to the bank. Whenever people get a bank account they give the money to them. They check it before the people get the money. What I learned was the money goes to the bank.

There is a place where they make money. It is called the mint. They polish it and design it. People have some of this money. I learned that they make money in the mint.

Growing blueberries
By Elliana

Elliana and her family grew blueberries. They first made a pot. Then they got dirt and put it in the pot. Next they put seeds in the pot. After that, Elliana put some water.

The next day she woke up, and the seeds grew and grew. It was really, really big. The next morning, the root was in her face. It was in her family’s faces too. It was so, so, so big!

It was the biggest thing Elliana had ever seen. Her family told her to cut it. She said, “No!” She started to scream. She said, “This is the worst day ever!” She said, “What can get worse, I hate my life!”

The plant started to grow more and more when she was mad. She said, “Wait, I have an idea.” She was so nice to her family, friends, aunts, and parents that the plant got smaller and smaller. Then it turned back into a seed.

That’s my story growing blueberries.

"All About Playing Soccer"
I am an expert at soccer. How you play is you kick the ball with your foot. You have to wear a jersey. I run really, really fast. I have the best coach ever. The more I practice the more I can get better.

How you play is you run fast with the ball. You make control of the ball. The ball has to get the ball in the net to score. If you push someone on the ground it is a foul. I believe in myself and my team.

My team name was the stars. The team was really fast. Gretta made a lot of goals. My team has good sportsmanship because they help each other. I love soccer so much.

My coach is Lucy's mom. The coach is really nice. She thought I was really good at soccer. I think she is really a good coach because she doesn't yell and she thinks I am a good sport.

My mom helped me sometimes. She let me practice. I would get to go to the park to practice. My mom was the one to make me run and pass the ball. My mom is the best mom in the world. Soccer makes me happy.

This Spring break my mom is getting surgery. She is getting surgery on her birthmark. It is going to be a hard spring break. I am really scared like last time. I do not want her to have surgery. She will die if she doesn't get it removed. Her birthmarks is on her neck.

She does not really care. We will be a providence. I will try not to cry. We are going to have to wake up super early. We will get something to eat and I will pick a smoothies. I hope my mom will be ok. I can tell my mom is nervous, after she gets out I will help her. I can wait seriously and I will be sad.

I succeeded unexpectedly when I played soccer. How I succeeded was I practiced. Sam played soccer like me. My coach really made me practice. I really love soccer. I did not think I would be good at first. I thought I would be bad. First I stopped and prayed. Then I started to practice. Then I got the hang of it.

I'm good at soccer because I practice. Practicing is the right thing to do. When you practice you get better and can be better than you expected to be. I was happy that I succeeded unexpectedly at soccer. I want to keep playing now.

My life in Antarctica would be boring and cold. It would be boring because in Antarctica they have long nights. It would also be boring because they take short showers. They have short showers because they take the salt out the water. I feel happy to talk about this.
I would be cold because sometimes there is snow and ice. Sometimes it gets so cold it freezes the water so it turns into ice. Sometimes ships come and break the ice. Sometimes the ice covers the whole sea. I love the project so much.
Sometimes there is snow there. The snow is about 5 feet. There is snow and ice. It might be really slippery. I enjoy this project so much.

"No Place to Hide"
Deforestation is a problem because people cut trees. When people cut trees elephants do not have hiding spot. If they don't have a hiding spot it would be easy for people to hunt them. I am going to do a poster so people learn about deforestation.
When people cut trees elephants do not have a hiding spot. Elephants are forced to migrate to an environment that may stress them out. Many elephants can die because they have to get food, water, and shelter. People do not want elephants to die because they are helpful.
Some people like elephants because they carry heavy supplies for them. Elephants carry people and water. Not everyone likes elephants because they kill them. They are killing them for their ivory. They use their ivory to build statues and other kinds of things.
To help solve this problem, I plan on making posters. I will create the posters by thanksgiving. I will hang my posters in the school. How this is going to help is by teaching you what deforestation means and how it hurts the elephants.

Leon was born with no fingers on his left hand.  His dad made a hand out of a 3-D printer.  It was like a real hand because he can write.  He can do a lot with his fake hand like read or write.  It was a good idea to make a hand.

What I would make out of a 3-D printer is a play station 4.  I would so like a play station 4.  I would get to play Knack.  I would like a play station 4 a lot.  That would be so cool to make.

Why I would want a play station 4 is to play Knack. Knack is my favorite game to play.  I hope the game last forever.  It is a good game to play.  I love to play the game Knack.

Rosie is a smart dog. She protects our house. She wakes us up. She always bites our feet, I love here.
She protects our house. She is a good protector because she bites. Sometimes she can’t protect because she’s in her cage. I am very lucky.

She wakes us up by biting us. I love when she wakes us up. She jumps up in the morning too. I love when she licks me.

Singing is really peaceful to my heart. Singing comes from your heart. It does not come from your lungs. You just practice to get the song. I love learning to sing.

Singing comes from your heart. Your heart is a special gift. Gift so it gives out good luck. The special gift to sing is your heart. I love my heart because it gives out a special gift.

Singing does not come from your lungs. Singing comes from your heart and it comes from your love. You can write a song about anything. I love singing because it is like rapping.

Singing comes from your heart and your heart is good. You just have to practice and practice. You can write and talk about singing. I love learning all about singing.
