Justine’s Summer

Over the summer my grandparents are going to come here. My grandma is a bird expert. My grandpa sometimes spoils me and is a photographer. My step-grandma is a good cook and likes to cook with me. I’m very very very excited!!

My grandpa most likely will take me on a fun hike. My grandma might teach me some awesome bird facts. My grandparents might even take me to water or an amusement park.

After they leave L I am going to Pickathon. (An awesome camping place a lot of people go to). There is a circus, music, and fun places in a forest for kids.

After all that my mom and I are going on a mom and daughter trip. We are going to Timothy Lake up in Mt. Hood. We are going to go on hikes, make s’mores, and sleep in a tent. That’s a little bit of what I’m going to do this summer.

Ms. Luria - Justine, I can't wait to hear about the Pickathon. I've heard that it is amazing. Have you been before?

Justine

As I walked through the woods of many shadows I saw a Phoenix with red feathers and hair like fire. A cool wind blew in my face and it felt like cold hands wiping my face. As it blew, my hair blew back in the wind. I could hear the chirps of birds and the elves singing a song about the summer. I ran and fell into a field of flowers, trees and grass. As I lay in the field I thought about why I was here.

I ran away from my orphanage, because I had a witch for a teacher. As I thought and thought I felt stuff poking into my back. I got up and looked down and saw seven hatching baby Phoenixes that fell out of their tree. I picked them up and looked up in all the trees to find an empty nest.

Two minutes later I saw a mossy red nest with no baby birds in it. I just assumed it was theirs. The tree had Phoenix feathers and ivy on it. It was also by a pretty stream with rocks, dead flowers, and old stumps. The tree was as tall as a school and as thick as 107 note pads put on top of each other. The only problem was there were only branches at the top so I couldn’t climb up.

I heard loud screech so loud it almost made me deaf. I looked up and saw the mom Phoenix. She was probably mad at me for “taking” her baby. She swooped down and sunk her claws into my arm and I dropped the baby birds. The world felt like it was going so fast. I fell to the ground and closed my eyes. Two days later I woke up and was in a bed. My arm had bandages around it. I felt like it was a dream, but after I pinched myself nothing happened. A couple minutes later a man walked into the room. He had long, blond hair, and a pale face, blue eyes, white teeth, and he wore gold robes and a beard.

“Keke go nale Goldstone se nela y danles sen?” he said as he got some medications.

I really couldn’t understand him so I guessed.

“So you want me to go and kneel on a Goldstone and be shy and say ‘doing good stone?’” I asked.

He frowned and shook his head and said, “Hi, my name is Goldstone and are you doing OK?”

“Oh, I’m g-g-ood,” I said as I felt a flash of pain flow through me.

My kid business is cleaning houses. I know not to use things that the owner of the house does not want me to use. I think I will charge the owner 15 if they have a big house. I hope I will get their hose very clean. I also can’t wait to clean people’s houses.

To be a boss, you have to be imaginative, creative, energetic, determined and organized. To be imaginative you could come up with bold ideas. When you are creative you design something new. To be organized you put things in the right place. I hope I will be a good boss.

            How crow got his voice

Once there lived a boy raven and a girl fox. Everyone in the raven’s town said, “She will eat you.” Fox’s dad said, “Eat him and his family!” The couple left so they wouldn’t have hear that nonsense.

Three years later fox and raven had a baby that was a crow. Raven said, “We don’t want any voiceless babies.” Then fox pushed him into a stone cave that was very dark and said, “Leave him here forever” and they left no one has seen them since.

Something that was unusual about crow was that he didn’t know how to speak. One day he went on a journey to find his family. On the way he passed a valley with pink, yellow, blue, and red flowers. When he got to the forest he saw oak and apple trees. Then he flew up and looked down and saw a fox in a log. He wanted to ask her something but he couldn’t speak! The little fox asked, “What is your name?” Then he tried to say something. Three minuets later crow landed but the little fox ran away.

Then the little fox turned around and yelled, “You will get eaten up by my dad!”

Then crow thought, “What for?” He flew away so he could live. Then he noticed that a vine was wrapped around his foot. The father fox was coming! The father fox pulled on the vine. Right then the fox snapped the vine with his sharp teeth. Crow left wondering if the fox let him go on purpose or by accident.

Crow flew five miles and then dropped to the ground because he was tired. Then he looked up and saw a snake! Crow was so startled that he made his first loud noise. The snake hissed, “Ssssstop or I will go deaf and I’m only sssssix years old.” From that day on crow would make that noise. He would try to show everyone that he had a voice.

"One Thing I'm Good at is Ballet"
One thing I'm an expert at ballet. I started ballet when I was five and did it one day a week. Now I am nine and I do it three days a week. I do ballet at Classical Ballet Academy. I have two teachers names Miss Sarah and Miss Susan.

Ballet was invented in 1459 in Italy at a royal wedding. They danced to represent the foods they served. Can you imagine a carrot dance? King Louis IXV (14th) started the first ballet school called Royal Academy of Dance. Pierre Beauchamp developed the five basic positions.

In the beginning, ballet dancers dressed in long, heavy dresses that went down to the floor. A Belgian dancer named Marie made dresses that went down to your ankles. Now ballerinas wear almost any costume. One of the costumes a ballerina wears is called a pancake tutu. Pancake tutus are flat like a pancake and you don't eat them.

A beginner at ballets wears ballet slippers. Ballet slippers are soft and don't have flat tips. When your feet get stronger you get pointed shoes. Pointed shoes are hard and have flat tips so you can go endpoint. I'm not en Pointe yet.

Point of View poem: Justine

Tell me a story
says Harry Potter's child
Of your Hogwarts times
Were they busy and wild?
I'd love to learn
about your adventures
Oh and the four houses too!
And Voldermort's big defeat
and good times with Headwig too.
Just please, some
thing nice
and remember,
I'm afraid of mice!

My topic is how deforestation affects spotted owls. Deforestation causes spotted owls to lose their homes in trees. Over logging  makes it harder for spotted owls to find homes.
Deforestation is when forests are cut down. People cut down trees because they need wood. They use wood to make paper, fire, and houses. Trees grow slowly so it makes us have fewer trees.
Deforestation causes spotted owls to lose their habitat. One of the spotted owls foods are flying squirrels. Flying squirrels live in trees so deforestation makes them die so owls can't eat them. I learned that spotted owls don't like new forests only old evergreen forests.
To save spotted owls I'll tell my family and friends not to use a lot of paper. I decided to tell them that before winter break. That will help spotted owls because people won't have as much trees.
