Monday June 9th - 9 AM - Final Awards Ceremony in the auditorium.
Monday, June 8th - PJ Day. Students may bring ONE stuffed animal that that is small.
Tuesday June 9th - Field Day in the PM
Wednesday June 10th - First Grade Buddy field trip to the park in PM -

Friday June 12th - Boxing Hours and Lunch from 10 - 12 noon (Help Ms. Luria pack and move classrooms for next year) and then have pizza lunch (location TBD). Students are welcome as long as there is an adult with them!
Dear Families,
As you see, there are
a lot of important dates and details above this letter. Please read them over carefully so you know what is going on.
On
Monday, we will do a read-a-thon along with PJ day. Students should wear PJ's that are for the weather. We will still have recess and get moving around that day! They are welcome to bring one SMALL stuffie, some books to read, and one blanket that can go outside for reading time.
One
Tuesday we will have Field Day in the afternoon. That will be from 1 pm - 2:30 pm. Students should expect to get SOAKED during field day and should bring a full change of clothes in their backpack. After Field Day we will have our Ice Cream Party to celebrate being the school wide winners in the canned food drive.
Wednesday we will have our annual walking field trip to Irvington Park. Thank you for all of the adults that signed up to help out during the trip. We still need more volunteers. This is a very fun event and one that you will not want to miss. It is quite the Luria/Crowder tradition that has happened every year we have been at the school!
On
Wednesday we will do the GREAT LOCKER CLEANOUT. Please have your child come to school with either reusable grocery bags of a paper bag to bring home all of their things!
Thursday is our last day of school. Students will receive their Blog books, we will write letters to each other and say goodbye. For the afternoon, students are welcome to bring one board game to share with the classroom. They should also bring one chapter book to read and a towel for reading outside in the garden.
I highly recommend that during the summer you plan some sort of a routine for your child. Many people have luck with a list of things that should be completed before any screen time during the summer occurs. If your child does not practice math or writing for 2 months they WILL loose skills and then next years teacher will start the year having to review 3rd grade skills.
For example your list might have some of the following ideas:
- Bed made and room tidy
- Small chore for house done from a list
- At least 45 minutes of outdoor play time, creative time or project time
- At least 25 minutes of reading a book that is not a comic
- At least 1 page of summer work packet complete -
- this should be something that can be completed independently. You might need to go to someplace like learning palace to find the right level work. It should alternate math one day and writing the next day.
After these things are completed, then your child can have whatever screen time you allow. You can adjust the list as you want or wish, I would just be clear that whatever you choose, everything has to be complete before screen time. It is ok if the child chooses not to complete the jobs and not get any screen time. No arguing, negotiating or nagging is needed on your part! You want your child to get into the habit of being independent!

As you probably heard, our
Praying Mantis bugs hatched! Students brought them home this last Friday. Hopefully you were able to put them in the garden.
Also, you may have heard that we made three
loans on KIVA. All of those loans are now fully funded and we will be making one last loan before the end of the year. After reading our book about South Sudan and learning more about Guinea Worm, students are excited to loan money to that part of Central Africa. Our next loan will be for another country affected by Guinea Worm!
These last two weeks have been full of learning. Students continue to have regular math lessons. We are working on the distributive properties of division and multiplication. In science we spent two weeks learning and making simple machines. We are now exploring magnetic forces and the properties of magnets.
- Ask your child about the hangar catapult that they built in science class!
